Sinus Problems/Tooth Pain

October 8th, 2009

Q: What is the connection between sinus pain and my teeth ? An attack of sinusitis makes my teeth hurt.

A: Many root canals have been done in the name of “sinusitis.”  When your sinuses are inflamed or full of drainage it can put pressure on your upper teeth (especially the back teeth that have roots closest to the sinus).  The teeth can move slightly downward causing them to hit slightly harder together when you close or bite.  This new and constant contact can create tooth sensitivity or pain.  It is important to mention to your dentist if you are experiencing tooth pain and have had recent sinus problems.
