Periodontal Maintenance

We have 5 levels of care to provide just the right treatment for you.
  1. Initial Perio Therapy - Introductory treatment in hygiene includes diagnosis with the hygienist. Patient education is an integral part of this appointment. Explanation of disease and “how to” control periodontal disease is stressed. Treatment planning is based on periodontal charting, levels of tartar, tenacity of tartar, and other contributing factors. A gross debridement of plaque can be expected at this appointment. This begins the detoxification of the pockets. If the case is not complicated a complete prophy MAY be completed at this appointment.
  2. Preventative Periodontal Therapy - Routine Cleaning - this appointment is for our consistent patient interested in maintaining optimum periodontal health. Includes probing once a year, bitewing x rays once a year, patient education, and coaching . 3-12 month intervals are established to continue ideal health.
  3. Gingivitis Therapy - Moderate to severe inflammation is present with sore and bleeding gums. Periodontal pockets are present and out of normal range. Plaque and calculus are present above and below the gum line. Your appointment will include a review of your condition and home care needs. This appointment may include removal of deposits with ultra sonic instruments. We finish with hand instrumentation and may do some polishing. Follow up care will be recommended and established based on your prognosis.
  4. Modified Periodontal Therapy & Periodontal Therapy - These appointments are reserved for site specific or quadrant periodontal care to treat areas of bone loss and moderate to severe breakdown. Treatment may include local anesthesia, ultrasonic debridement with sub gingival irrigation. Post operative care is specific to your needs. 2-6 month intervals to “control” the condition will be recommended.
  5. Supportive Periodontal Therapy – This appointment is designed to assist the patient who has completed periodontal therapy or periodontal surgery by a periodontist. There is typically a shorter treatment interval to control pockets and minimize further periodontal breakdown. Research suggests pockets over 5 mm can be more successfully maintained on a 90 day interval.
